Royals Stay Hot, Despite Loss Of Gordon

“Ain’t no stopping us now, we’re on the move” – Lyrics sung by McFadden & Whitehead, fits perfect for the 2015Royals Kansas City Royals.

A day after losing All-Star left fielder Alex Gordon for at least eight weeks due to a groin strain, the Royals sweep the Tampa Bay Rays to win their 50th game of the season.

The red-hot Royals have won five straight games, are 6-4 in their last ten and have a 5.5 game lead against the second place Minnesota Twins.

In Thursday’s game, the offense put up eight runs on 13 hits, scoring almost at will.  In the bottom of the first Kansas City plated three runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Eric Hosmer and a two-run home run off the bat of Lorenzo Cain

In the next inning, the Royals extended the lead to 4-0, after Cheslor Cuthbert hit an RBI triple scoring Alex Rios. In the top of the fifth, the Rays finally got to Yordano Ventura as they added three runs of their own on a walk and two sac fly balls to pull within 4-3.

The Royals matched the Rays with a three-spot of their own in their half of the fifth on a sac fly off the bat of Kendrys Morales and Salvador Perez‘s 14th home run of the season, a two-run shot scoring Cain to put the Royals up 7-3. One more run crossed the plate for the home team to extended the score to 8-3 and put a seal on their fifth straight win.
