Ryan Howard Signs Minor League Deal With Atlanta

Ryan Howard, who played his whole MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies, signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves.

Over the past three years, Howard averaged 23 home runs and 77 RBIs, but has remained unsigned since he elected to file for free agency on November 3, 2016, ending his 13 year run in Philadelphia.

Howard is expected to report to the Braves extended spring training in Lake Buena Vista, FL and as reported on MLB.com, possibly join their Triple-A affiliate the Gwinnett Braves.

The 37-year old lefty hitting slugger, is looking to keep his career alive, but even though he averaged more than 20 home runs the past three seasons, his batting average has continued to slide, finishing 2016 batting just .196 in 112 games.

Without a DH spot in the National League and Freddie Freeman solid at first base, the only option may be the MLB bench where the Braves currently do not have a looming late inning power threat.  Howard can possibly fill that need.
