On Sunday afternoon, San Francisco Giants’ fans got a second look at a new member of their starting rotation in Jeff Samardzija. The 31-year-old started Sunday’s matchup against the the LA Dodgers at Scottsdale Stadium. Samardzija allowed five hit over three innings; striking out five and allowing just one run.
The right-hander pitched two innings in his first start last Wednesday against the LA Angels, allowing two hits and a run. The Giants had also planned to start another new member of their rotation in Johnny Cueto this weekend, but aren’t going to rush him into Spring play just yet due to the long postseason he had with his World Series win with the Kansas City Royals.
In 2015 with the Chicago White Sox, Samardzija was 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA in thirty-two starts. HE hasn’t had a winning record since 2011 when he was 8-4 with a 2.97 ERA when he was a member of the Chicago Cubs.
