Eight teams entered the Quarterfinal round and now only four remain, but for South Korea, their next opponent will be a tough task at hand. Japan, the number one ranked nation in the world for baseball purposes, is waiting in the wing for their next victim on their way to an imminent WBSC Premier 12 Championship, but South Korea looks to stop the dominance.

But first they had to advance out of their own quarterfinal match against Team Cuba.

On Monday, South Korea struck first by scoring five runs in the top of the second to put the pressure on Cuba. But the Caribbean country did not have a response for the punch they received.

South Korea ousted Cuban starter Frank Montieth in just one inning of work, as he gave up three runs on four hits.  The Cuban offense staggered throughout the game, only managing two runs on seven hits, with their only scoring coming in the fifth inning.

South Korea added two more runs in the top of the seventh to pull away and secure a 7-2 victory to advance to a date with Japan on Thursday.

The winner will advance to the Championships on Saturday against the winner of the Mexico/United States game on Friday.
