Southern League All Star Game: North Crushes South 9-0

The Southern League All-Star game was played on Tuesday in front of 5,891 fans who were on hand at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits to watch the North All Stars crush the South stars 9-0.

The North pitchers shut down the South offense allowing just four hits, while walking four and striking out nine and the offense took advantage of the dominance by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second, one in the fourth and four more in the eighth to pull away for the easy victory.

The Tennessee Smokies first baseman Dan Vogelbach put the North up early on a three-run home run, pulling the ball over the right field fence scoring Chattanooga Lookouts outfielders Adam Walker II and Max Kepler. Then Birmingham Barons shortstop Tim Anderson hit a two-out triple scoring fellow teammate on the Barons, second baseman Joey DeMichele, adding to the early 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Anderson doubled and then scored on Montgomery Biscuits center fielder Johnny Field‘s RBI single extending the lead to 5-0.

The Lookouts infielder Miguel Sano drove in a run on a single scoring his Lookouts teammate, infielder Jorge Polanco, who hit a one-out single earlier in the inning. Then with the bases loaded, Biscuits third baseman Tyler Goeddel hit a three-run triple scoring Barons catcher Adrian Nieto, Sano and Walker II to put the game away at 9-0.

The only extra base hit of the game for the South came off the bat of Blue Wahoos outfielder Kyle Waldrop who hit a two-out double in the second but was left stranded.

The Lookouts Jose Berrios was given the victory tossing one scoreless inning, allowing a hit and striking out two,  while Pensacola Blue Wahoos Robert Stephenson took the loss after throwing an inning, and allowing four runs (two earned), walking two and striking out one.
