Tulowitzki And Gonzalez Back In Action For The Rockies

Rockies - Tulowitzki and Gonzalez

Special to The Denver Post, David Zalubowski

Tuesday March 9th, marked the return of Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez to the Colorado Rockies line up.

Both ball players were lost for the 2014 season after undergoing surgeries due to injuries sustained on the field.

Tulowitzki’s last game was on July 19 when he required surgery to repair his left hip labrum and Gonzalez last played on Aug. 8 and required surgery to repair the patella tendon in his left knee.

When Tulo went down last summer, he ended the season playing in 91 games and batted .340, with 21 home runs and 52 RBI’s. The four time all-star shortstop was on pace to surpass his 2013 totals when he batted .312, with 25 home runs and 82 RBI’s and probably shatter his career high in home runs at 32 and RBI’s at 105.

Prior to Gonzalez’s injury, he was not having a CarGo like season as he batted just .238, with 11 home runs and 38 RBI’s through 70 games. In 2013, the two time all-star outfielder batted .302, with 26 home runs and 70 RBI’s.

On Monday they both returned to action as Tulo went 0 for 2, with a strikeout and CarGo finished 0 for 1 with a walk.

“It was nice to put back on the uniform and get back into the game mode,” Tulowitzki told The Denver Post. “I think I turn into a different person at game time. This felt different than a usual spring game.”

Gonzalez added, “I felt really good. I was a little anxious at first, but I kind of let it go after that. The most important thing was that I was pain free.”

Both players have been rumored to be moved in trades, even though Rockies GM Jeff Bridich told FOXSports.com back in January that it is “highly, highly unlikely” the team would part ways with both players before Opening Day.

So now the focus is for Tulo and CarGo to work their way back into playing shape and ready themselves for a 2015 comeback season.
