Yankees’ Heathcott Put On DL; Ramon Flores Promoted

Last week the New York Yankees called up outfielder Slade Heathcott when Jacoby Ellsbury sprained his knee. Immediately it seemed that the call up was going to help the Yankees as Heathcott continued to bat over .300 and even hit his first home run against the Kansas City Royals.

However, on Saturday morning the Yankees announced that Heathcott had a Grade 2 strain of his quadriceps and he was being put on the 15-day disabled list with no immediate plans to join the team in the near future.

This news is quite bittersweet as fans and the team are saddened as Heathcott was clearly feeling at home in pinstripes but for one player it’s the call he’s also been waiting for.

Outfielder Ramon Flores received his Big League promotion and joined the team on Saturday morning and will make his Major League debut on Saturday night in left field, batting seventh in the lineup.

Flores has been playing with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for the past two seasons. So far in 2015 Flores is batting .294 along with four homers and fifteen RBI. His most notable performance this season is when he hit for the cycle in the first game of 2015.

Although known for his outfield skills in left, center and right, Flores has also played first and third base as well as shortstop and once played catcher in the Venezuelan Winter League.

The 23 year old was signed by the New York Yankees in 2009 when he was just seventeen years old.
