Yanks Boost Rotation By Adding Carlos Rodon

Buren Foster / Charlotte Knights

The New York Yankees always seem to make a splash to their roster this time of the year and yesterday was no different, as they boosted their rotation by adding one of the most coveted arms on the free agent market, in Carlos Rodon.

The Miami, Florida, native who is coming off one of his better years in his eight year career, after going 14-8, with a 2.88 ERA, and 237 strike outs in 31 starts, lands a 6-year, $162 million deal to join a club that is in win now mode.

In his breakout year of 2021 with the Chicago White Sox, Rodon was 13-5, with a 2.37 ERA, striking out 185 batters as opposing hitters batted just .189 against him, while sporting his lowest WHIP of his career at 0.96. The lefty starter figured it out in 2021, which carried into 2022 and now can be part of a possible World Series run with the Yankees in 2023.

After Aaron Judge returned to the Bronx, the Yankees went back to work to solidly their rotation that already has Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, Luis Severino, Frankie Montas, and Domingo German, who won 18 games in 2019.

Adding Rodon is a big step for the Yankees as they are sending a message to the AL East and of course the Houston Astros, that they will be gunning for another Title run, with the hopes of finally taking down the Astros. Last title was in 2009, so we can all say, the Yanks are way overdue.
