Home Run Derby Fun Facts:
-Bryant, Pederson, Rizzo and Machado are all first time participants in the Home Run Derby whereas Frazier and Donaldson both took part last year.
-Prince Fielder previously won the Home Run Derby in 2009 and 2012.
-Todd Frazier was the runner-up in the 2014 Derby and this year could definitely be a front runner in front of a home crowd in his home ballpark in Cincinnati.
-A few names that were clearly missing from this year’s list include the Detroit Tigers’ Yoenis Cespedes has won the last two Home Run Derby Competitions in 2013 and 2014 but won’t be participating in this year’s Derby, he is one of five candidates in the American League’s Final Vote contest for the final spot on the All-Star Roster. The Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper also won’t be participating in this year’s contest because his father, who usually pitches to him in the Home Run Derby, is recovering from surgery and wouldn’t be able to participate and Bryce would rather not do it without his Father.
The 2015 Home Run Derby will take place on Monday evening at 8 pm at Great American Ballpark.
