Alex Rodriguez has finally reached the milestone that was once thought to be unattainable, as he surpassed Willie Mays with his 661st home run at Yankee Stadium on Thursday against the Orioles. A-Rod hit his 63 career home run against Baltimore, which is the second most against any team. The Angels lead in that category as they have given up the most home runs (70) to Rodriguez.
There wasn’t a stoppage of play nor were there any speeches, but the Yankee faithful did honor A-Rod with a standing ovation as they summoned him out for a curtain call, which he obliged.
In three at bats on Thursday, Rodriguez was 2 for 3, with 2 RBI and on the season he is batting .245, with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 27 games so far this season.
The next milestone for A-Rod would be 714 home runs to tie Babe Ruth for third on the all-time home run list.
