AL Teams Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
- Updated: September 29, 2015

(Gabe Rodriguez)
With the New York Yankees loss to the Boston Red Sox on Monday, three other teams playoff hopes have remained alive with less than a week to go in the 2015 MLB regular season.
The Yankees lead the top Wild Card spot by 3.5 games, with the Houston Astros in the second spot and only leading the LA Angels by .5 game and the surging Minnesota Twins by 1.5 games.
The Astros who are hoping to catch the Texas rangers and regain the lead in the AL West, won their third game in a row defeating the Seattle Mariners 3-2. The Rangers had a chance to keep a strong grip on first place, but they dropped their third game in a row losing to the Detroit Tigers 7-4. The Magic number remains at five.
The Angels, who are also in the hunt, sit in third place in the West and are only two games out of the lead and .5 game out of the final Wild Card spot. They won their sixth game in a row on Monday defeating the Oakland A’s on a walk-off base-hit off the bat of David Murphy in the bottom of the ninth.
The Twins, who were already eliminated in the AL Central division, are keeping their slim chances alive as they won their third straight game defeating the Cleveland Indians 4-2 and stay within 1.5 games of the final Wild Card spot.
The Yankees have their destiny in their own hands, but if they can’t get it together and shore up the top Wild card spot, there are three other teams looking to gain the advantage and a spot in the post-season.
The AL races are coming down to the wire and at this point its anyone’s guess which teams will finally lock it up. Stay tuned folks, its gets better from here. Baseball at its finest.
