The Houston Astros Top Prospect Joey Loperfido, is expected to be promoted to the majors on Tuesday to face-off against the Cleveland Guardians.

Lopofido, who was drafted by the Astros in the 7th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, is a career minor league .283 batter, with 60 doubles, 52 home runs and 180 RBIs since he was drafted into the organization.

This year so far in Triple A, Loperfido has been tearing through the Pacific Coast League, with 13 home runs in 25 games.

The Philadelphia, PA native is ranked in the Top 10 in at bats (101), first in runs scored (31) and home runs (13), tied for fourth in RBIs (27), and first in SLG% (.713).

Loperfido hit safely in six of his first six games, before going on an eight game hitting streak from April 6th to April 14th, and batted .424 (14 for 33), with six home runs and 14 RBIs. On April 12th, he enjoyed a three homer game, which included a solo homer, a two-run shot and a grand slam, while also driving in seven runs.

Over his last six games, Loperfido has hit safely in five of the six games, batting .375 (9 for 24), with three home runs and three RBIs.

Houston in mired in last place in the AL West at 9-19, and losers of seven of their last 10 games. They are looking for a spark for their lineup as they have managed to score just 122 runs in their first 28 games, which averages out to about a little over four runs a game.

The Astros next opponent will be the 19-9 Cleveland Guardians, who are winners of seven of their last 10 and lead the AL Central Division by 2.5 games.

Jose Altuve is leading the Astros with a .342 batting average and tied with Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker with seven home runs. Adding Loperfido, barring he hits as much as he has in the minors, can get the Astros back in the winning column and out of the cellar.
