Bryce Harper Reaches Base In 20th Straight Game

Harper is still 64 games away from the record held by Ted Williams in 1949.

On Monday, the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper walked to extend his current streak to 20 straight games that he has reached base.

The streak started on April 14th when he singled in five at bats.  Since, he has either gotten on base via a hit or walked to continue the streak, which included recording a walk in ten straight games and then again in six straight during the span. Harper’s OBP% soared from .286 on April 14th to .419 after Mondays game.

Harper, who has played in all 27 games so far this season, has helped lead the Nationals latest surge as they try and catch the first place New York Mets. At 13-14, they have won three straight and six of their last ten games. Over the weekend, the Nationals took two out of three games from the Mets, with back to back 1-0 victories.

On Monday the offense took over as Yunel Escobar led with a 5 for 5 night, scoring a run and driving in two. Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann kept the Marlins in check as he tossed seven innings, allowing just one earned run, on six hits and four strike outs.

On Tuesday the Nationals battle the Marlins again with Harper looking to extend his streak and draw closer to the record of 84 games set by Ted Williams in 1949.

Records were meant to be broken, but this one will be a huge one to topple.
