Bumgarner And Byrd Both Homer As Giants Top Pirates 6-4
In Marlon Byrd’s first at-bat with the San Francisco Giants, he hit a two run homer on a fly ball to left center field. Some could say that definitely made an impression on his Giants’ followers. But, he wasn’t the only member of San Fran that would knock one out of the park as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 on Friday night.
Byrd’s homer put the Giants up 3-0 after a sac fly by Buster Posey that sent Nori Aoki home initially put them up by one run earlier in the inning.
In the second inning Gregor Blanco started things off when he hit his nineteenth double of the season on a ground ball to left field. The Giants’ Ace Madison Bumgarner then hit his fifth homer of the season on a fly ball to left center field. Bumgarner’s success at the plate has also led Giants’ Manager Bruce Bochy to use him as a pinch-hitter in dire situations.
Bumgarner went six and one third innings on the mound allowing three runs off of six hits while striking out six on 109 pitches as he earned his fifteenth win of the season.
The San Francisco Giants are currently in second place in the National League West, one and a half games behind the LA Dodgers.
