Bumgarner Named AP Male Athlete of The Year

World Series hero top male athlete.

On Tuesday, Madison Bumgarner was named the AP 2014 Male Athlete of the Year. The all-star lefty had a great season finishing 18-10, with a 2.98 ERA and 219 strike outs in 217.1 innings.

His dominant regular season carried over into the post season as he helped lead the San Francisco Giants to their third World Series championship in the last five years. He finished the post season with four wins, a 1.03 ERA, and 45 strike outs in 52.2 innings.

Bumgarner adds this accolade to his growing awards in 2014 alone, as he also took home the NLCS and World Series MVP awards and Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year.

Note: With Bumgarner joining Mo’ne Davis, as the recipients of the AP Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards, it was a total baseball sweep.
