Byron Buxton Is Healthy But Struggling With The Bat

Has Kris Bryant’s promotion added extra pressure on Buxton?

Twins-Buxton1

Now that Kris Bryant has made his major league debut, the countdown starts for when it will be Byron Buxton‘s turn to rise to the big leagues.

The country’s #1 prospect is healthy and playing baseball with the Chattanooga Lookouts, Minnesota Twins Double-A affiliate. But even though he is playing and is healthy, he is struggling with the bat.

In the first four games of the season, Buxton was 3 for 24, with a home run, two RBI’s and nine strikeouts.  In his fifth game of the season, he would finally breakout with a 4 for 6 game, a double, triple and seven total bases.

Since his offensive breakout on April 13th, Buxton has continued to struggle.  In his last six games, the top prospect is batting .095 (2 for 21), with three walks and four strikeouts. On the season, Buxton is batting .196, (9 for 46), with one home run, three RBI’s and 14 strikeouts.

The pressure could be getting to 21-year old Georgia native, especially with how well Bryant has done, but what Buxton needs to prove the most is that he can remain healthy and on the field for a full season and then allow the game to come to him.

Buxton has already proven that he can hit, but are the pressures of reaching the major leagues too much to handle?
