Chicago Cubs’ minor league prospect Chirstian Villanueva broke his right fibula while taking infielding drills on Sunday afternoon.

The third baseman had jumped to field a ball and when he landed it seemed that his footing was off and it led to an unfortunate injury. The twenty-four -year-old was acquired by the Cubs in 2012 along with Kyle Hendricks from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Ryan Dempster.

Villanueva started the 2015 season in Double-A Tennessee and then was promoted to Triple-A Iowa when Kris Bryant was sent to the Majors. Villanueva’s 2015 average was .257 along with twenty homers and 95 RBIs.

Villanueva is ranked as the 26th best prospect in the Cubs’ organization; he hit the 11th most RBIs in the Minors last season.
