Cubs Rizzo Predicts NL Central Title

Would be their first since 2008.

The Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, did something bold on Thursday, he predicted that the Cubs would win the NL Central Division Title in 2015.

The last time the Cubs won the Central Division was in 2008 when the team went 97-64, but were eliminated from the playoffs after the Los Angeles Dodgers won their opening series, 3-0.

Since that playoff appearance, the team from the windy city has been on a downward spiral averaging 90 losses and also watching their attendance fall from 3.3 million in 2008 to 2.65 million in 2014.

But that should all change in 2015, especially with Joe Maddon leading the helm and Jon Lester in the starting rotation, the Cubs faithful should be flocking back to Wrigley Field.

A division crown is always on the mind of Cubs fans, and Rizzo shared that sentiment as he spoke very confidently regarding 2015, “It’s going to happen this year,” he said during a Cubs Caravan stop at an elementary school. “[Get to the postseason] is what we’re going to do. We’re going to play, we’re going to win the NL Central. You guys will quote me on that.”

Rizzo continued, “We should be the team — with all due respect to every other team, they’re just as good talent-wise — but we’re going to do some things this year and that’s what we’re expecting, that’s what we’re going to put our sights on and we’re not going to accept anything less.”

Ironically, the movie, Back to the Future 2, also predicted that the Cubs would win the 2015 World Series, so the fans have that much more to look forward to and maybe this will be the year the finally reach their goal. If anything else, its another great baseball story.
