The Chicago Cubs signed infielder Ben Zobrist to a 4-year deal worth $56 million on Tuesday evening.

The 34 year old Zobrist is a veteran infielder who will now be reunited with his former Manager Joe Maddon once again.  The 2015 season was the first full season that Zobrist didn’t play under Maddon in his ten years of big league play. Zobrist hit a combined .276 last season between play with both the Oakland A’s and the Kansas City Royals along with thirteen homers and 56 RBIs.

Zobrist looks to be a good fit for the young Cubs’ team who turned many heads this past year under Maddon’s first year with the team. His versatility and flexibility in not just the infield but also left field and as a switch-hitter will give a little more depth to that young lineup.

The Illinois native is not only a recent World Series Champion but also a two-time All-Star in 2009 and 2013 while with the Tampa Bay Rays. He was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in 2004 and was then traded to the Rays in July 2006 in exchange for first baseman Aubrey Huff.
