D-Backs Bradley Nearing A Return To The Mound

After liner to the face, Rookie pitcher anxious to get back on the mound

On April 28th, the Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Archie Bradley took a line shot off his face and suffered a right sinus fracture.  The impact of the line drive was measured by cameras to be at 115 mph. The video looked really bad, especially with seeing him laying on the ground face down and motionless.  It was a very scary thing to see.

Prior to that game, Bradley was starting to settle into his role as a major league starter. Including April 28th, he has four starts, and is 2-0, with a 1.80 ERA, with 14 strikeouts in 20 innings. The only flaw so far this season is the 11 batters that he has walked.  But other than that the D-Backs top pitching prospect has cemented his stake in his major league future, with the only hope that his injury doesn’t change his approach.

What was ironic about Bradley’s injury was that on the same day he was hit, a 14-year old boy also suffered a line drive to the face in his game. Bradley made it a point to surprise and visit with the young man at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital and make his day.

Bradley wrote on his instagram account

“This is why I love my job!. This is nick a 14 year old who was hit in the face by a line drive the same exact day I was! I got the pleasure to surprise him and his family yesterday at Phoenix children’s hospital @phxchildrens and give him some signed items and just hangout and talk about our injury! He is one tough kid and he really put things in perspective for me about how lucky I am to be able to play this game!”

Bradley looks to be eligible to return from the disabled list on May 15 and at 6’4″, 230 lbs, the Oklahoma native is one tough young man who also talked with the media recently about his playing days in football and how he would take a hit and get right back up and go at it again.

So there shouldn’t be any worry in Arizona with how Bradley will return.  But with the team in last place at 10-13, they need an ace and a leader to help turn their season around, and a healthy Bradley could be the difference maker.

Wishing him a speedy recovery and great return to the mound.
