Wednesday’s Cactus League spring game between the LA Dodgers and LA Angels, was set up to be a pitchers duel, with Scott Kazmir on the hill for the Dodgers against the Angels Jered Weaver. But both pitchers failed to keep their team in the game as Kazmir gave up five runs on six hits in just 1.2 innings, while Weaver also gave up five runs on six hits in 2.2 innings.
Kazmir signed a free agent contract with the Dodgers for the 2016 season, after finishing 7-11, between the Oakland A’s and Houston Astros in 2015. Weaver, who has only pitched for the Angels in his career, was 7-12 in 2015 and is looking for a rebound season.
The Dodgers took an early 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the 1st, the Angels added three runs to take a 3-1 lead. After jumping out to an 8-4 lead after four, the Dodgers responded with eight runs late in the game to take a 13-10 lead, but the Angels scored three in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to a 13-13 tie.
Offensively, the Dodgers totaled 20 hits, with Joc Pederson, Austin Barnes, and Scott Van Slyke each homering, and Barnes and prospect Cody Bellinger recording three hits apiece.
As for the Angels, they recorded 16 hits, highlighted by Mike Trout‘s double and triple, and Albert Pujols finishing 2 for 3 with two RBI’s.
