New York Yankees’ catching prospect Gary Sanchez was named the Arizona Fall League hitter of the week this past week as he continues his amazing run this fall.

The twenty-two year old Sanchez is playing with other Yankees prospects along with farmhands from the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers  on the Surprise Saguaros. In the ten games so far he is hitting .386 with five homers and fifteen RBIs as well as stealing two bases. He was promoted to the New York Yankees as part of September call-ups, in his time with the Bronx Bombers he had just two at-bats, where he was unable to get his first Major League

Sanchez started the 2015 season with the Double-a Trenton Thunder for 58 games where he maintained a .262 average along with 12 homers and 36 RBIs. He was then promoted to Triple- A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre where his average in thirty-five games was .295 with six homers and 26 RBIs.

The success that Sanchez has had in the AFL so far is reminiscent of another New York Yankees young gun, first baseman Greg Bird. The twenty-two year old Bird who made his Major League debut this August, was named the MVP of the Arizona Fall League as well as a Fall League Star in 2014, could this be the same for Sanchez?

The  Fall Stars Game will take place on November 7, 2015 at Salt River Fields, check back when rosters are released.
