Florida State League: Hot Bats In The Last 7 Days

The Florida State League has always been one of the most talented leagues in the minor league system and even though they switched from High A ball to Low A, it has not affected the talent level that fans get to watch each and every night. Check out what the following prospects have done over the past week of games, as they are swinging hot bats.  Also to note that the ones on this list have recorded 7-8 hits in the span.

Caleb Ricketts – Threshers. Alex Walworth/Legends on Deck

Caleb Ricketts, – C, Clearwater Threshers

Ricketts, who was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 7th round of the 2022 June Draft out of San Diego, is currently batting .357 (20 for 56), with eight runs scored, three doubles, a triple, home run, and 15 RBIs. Ricketts is currently on a five game hitting streak and has recorded four multi-hit games in the span, which includes a 4-hit game, two 3-hit games and one 2-hit game. Since the start of the season, the Phillies #26 Top Prospect has hit safely in 10 of the 13 games he has appeared in. Over the past seven days, he is batting .533 (8 for 15), with four runs scored, two doubles, and eight RBIs.

Leonardo Balcazar – SS, Daytona Tortugas

Balcazar, who was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a free agent to a minor league contract on January 15, 2021, is currently batting .339 (19 for 56), with 10 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, home run, nine RBIs and 13 walks. The Maracay, Venezuela native, who is the Reds #23 Top Prospect, is currently enjoying a six game hitting streak. He has also hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games. During the hitting streak he is batting .450 (9 for 20), with two doubles, a triple, six RBIs, a walk and has three multi hit games in that span.

Dom Johnson – OF, Lakeland Flying Tigers

Johnson, who was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round of the 2022 June Draft out of Kansas State, is currently batting .309 (17 for 55), with seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, two home runs, six RBIs and six walks. The Edmond, OK native, currently has a three game hitting streak, with two multi-games in that span, one being a 4-game on April 25th and the other a 2-hit game. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games and over the last seven days he is batting .400 (8 for 20), with four runs scored, two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and three walks.

Jordan McCants – SS, Jupiter Hammerheads

McCants, who was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 3rd round of the 2021 June draft out of Pensacola Catholic High School (Pensacola, FL), is currently batting .222 (16 for 72), with 10 runs scored, two doubles, a home run, six RBIs, and seven walks. The Pensacola, FL native currently has a five game hitting streak, with two multi-hit games in the span. Over the last 13 games, he has hit safely in 10, and during the last seven games he is batting .348 (8 for 23), with three runs scored, a double, and four RBIs.

Jared Serna – 2B, Tampa Tarpons

Serna, who signed as a free agent to a minor league contract by the New York Yankees July 2, 2019, is currently batting .320 (16 for 50), with five runs scored, three doubles, seven RBIs and seven walks. The Guaymas, Mexico native currently has a five game hitting streak and recorded three multi-hit games in the span, with a 4 for 5 game on April 27th.  Since the season began, he has appeared in 14 games and has hit safely in 10 games.  Over the past seven games, the Yankees #18 Top Prospect is batting .583 (7 for 12), with three runs scored, a double, and five RBIs.  He was also featured in our Prospects on Deck post on April 23, 2023.

Dillon Dingler – C, Lakeland Flying Tigers

Dingler, who was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2nd Round of the 2020 June Draft out of Ohio State, is currently batting .391 (9 for 23), with five runs scored, a double, two home runs and four RBIs. Since his season started on April 21st, the Tigers #14 Top Prospect  has hit safely in five of the six games he has appeared in, with three multi-hit games in the span.

Jacob Reimer – 3B, St Lucie Mets

Reimer, who was selected by the New York Mets in the 4th round of the 2022 June Draft out of Yucaipa High School (Yucaipa, CA), is currently batting .304 (17 for 56), with 10 runs scored, two doubles, nine RBIs and 11 walks. The Mets #17 Top Prospect, currently has a four game hitting streak, with two multi-hits in the span. Since the start of the seasons, Reimer is 11 for 17, and over his last seven games he is batting .389 (7 for 18), with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
