Florida State League Player of the Week: CF John Mora – Mets
St. Lucie center fielder honored for week of June 19-25.
In 2011, the New York Mets signed John Mora as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic.
After spending time in the Dominican Summer League for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Mora made his professional debut in the states in 2014 with the Gulf Coast League Mets. He also split time with the Brookln Cyclones (Low A) and combined he batted .307.
In 2015, he was promoted to the Savannah Sand Gnats (Class-A Full Season) and batted .278, 22 doubles, and finished tied for the lead with 12 triples in the South Atlantic League.
In 2016, Mora continued his journey with the St. Lucie Mets (Class-A Advanced) and in 128 games, he batted .246, with 15 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and walked 60 times.
This season, Mora is back with St. Lucie and he has risen his batting average by 20 points (.266), and already has 14 doubles, four triples and four home runs.
During the past week spanning June 19-25, the Dominican native is batting .467 (14 for 30), with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, seven RBIs and three walks. Over his last 10 games, Mora is batting .425 (17 for 40), hitting safely in eight straight games, and nine of his last 10. In his last eight games, Mora has recorded five two-hit games and one 4-hit game.
