FSL Game Breakdowns: Dunedin Blue Jays at Tampa Tarpons (4/9/2024)

The Tampa Tarpons (NYY) kicked off the first full week of baseball in the FSL tonight by welcoming in the Dunedin Blue Jays for the team’s home opener.

Tonight’s game featured three top-ten prospects in both the Blue Jays and Yankees organizations, with Lombard Jr. (NYY #7) and Arias (NYY #3, MLB #80) going one-two in the lineup tonight.

Arjun Nimmala (TOR #3) was the big name coming into the game tonight. The Jays 2023 1st Round pick, their is a lot of hype surrounding the young 18-year-old.

Scoring got started quickly for both teams in the first. Cade Doughty (TOR #13) doubled and later scored off a Victor Arias single in the top of the inning, taking the early 1-0 lead.

Tampa responded shortly after, going 1 through 7 in the first, including a pair of singles from Enmanuel Tejeda and Dylan Jasso and two runs, taking a 2-1 lead.

However, the Tarpons would stay quiet the remainder of the game, despite impressive pitching down the stretch by the Blue Jays pitching staff.

Connor O’Halloran went five innings, only allowing two hits and two runs, tabbing seven strikeouts and securing his first win of the 2024 campaign.

The Jays continued to score throughout the remainder of the ballgame off of doubles from catcher Edward Duran and Yhoangel Aponte (TOR #25), extending their lead to four on the night.

The Tarpons did have some late-game magic, setting up a bases-loaded situation in the ninth. However, Jerry Huntzinger closed the door on the Tarpons, striking out Arias (NYY #3, MLB #80) and jamming Enmanuel Tejeda into a groundout.

With that being said, let’s look at our Spaulding Stars of the Game:
