The NLDS between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs is currently tied at one game each and will now move to Wrigley Field. After being shutout in Game 1, the Cubs struck back in Game 2 and will look to gain on that momentum to take the series lead.
The Matchup:
The St. Louis Cardinals will send RHP Michael Wacha (3.38, 17-7) to the mound at Wrigley on Monday night. Although Wacha had a solid 2015 campaign, he hasn’t had much success against the Cubs so far this year. In four starts against Chicago, he has racked up a 6.86 ERA, his postseason success is 4-2 with a 3.48 which although numbers aren’t everything, this young Cubs’ lineup could definitely see some progress offensively. Anthony Rizzo has hit .455 in his career against Wacha with two homers and 4 RBIs, Dexter Fowler, Starlin Castro and Javier Baez also have over .400 career hitting against the righty.
The Cubs will send their ace and Cy Young candidate RHP Jake Arrieta (1.77, 22-6) to the counter Wacha, in his first start since his stellar Wild Card performance last week at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Arrieta has the opposite outcome verse the Cardinals this season as he has boasted a 2.42 ERA along with a 2-1 record. Jhonny Peralta, who is the Cardinals’ player with the most-ats against Arrieta, is hitting just .222 against the righty, Arrieta’s good friend Matt Holliday also hasn’t fared well and is 0 for 15.
