The Cubs have had two offensive powered games that have allowed them to take a 2-1 series lead in the NLDS over the St. Louis Cardinals. Game 4 of the series will be on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field as the Cubs try to end the series and move on to the National League Championship Game.
The Matchup:
The Cardinals will send RHP John Lackey out to the hill for Game 4 for the second time this series after he pitched in Game 1 on Friday night when he led the Cards to victory after pitching seven and a third innings with just two hits allowed. This is definitely the Cardinals best chance at getting a win to tie the series after he was able to shut down the bats of the young Cubs’ lineup. Keys to remember: Austin Jackson has a career average of .385 against Lackey and Dexter Fowler has hit .286 against the righty.
The Cubs will counter with RHP Jason Hammel, who hasn’t had success in the past against the division rival Cardinals. In the second half of the season Hammel has pitched 11 innings against St. Louis in which he has allowed seven runs and racked up a 5.10 ERA. This will be Hammel’s 2015 postseason debut against a Cards’ lineup that sports quite a few hitters that have his well. Hitters with success against Hammel include, Jason Heyward, Yadier Molina, Jhonny Peralta and the young Stephen Piscotty.
