Game Of The Week: D-Backs Look To Future With Dansby Swanson
- Updated: July 23, 2015
The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled the last few seasons, even finishing with the MLB’s worst record in 2014. With dedicated players like first baseman Paul Goldschmidt in for the “long haul” with the D-Backs, the team’s future does seem to be bright especially with the recent draft results and the signing of their first overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft last month.
Shortstop Dansby Swanson, out of Vanderbilt University was drafted in June and signed just moments before the deadline last Friday afternoon which included a $6.5 million signing bonus.
The twenty-one year old Swanson led the Commodores to the World Series Championship and was even named the “Most Outstanding Player in the college World Series” in 2014. But, came up short in his junior season in 2015 as they lost to Virginia in the final game of the series.
In his junior season in 2015, the Georgia native hit .325 along with fifteen homers, 64 RBIs, sixteen stolen bases, 24 doubles and six triples. HE was even a finalist for the “Golden Spikes Award” in 2015.
After officially signing last week and making an appearance at “Chase Field” on Monday night, he will officially report to the Arizona rookie summer league this week to kind of get his “feet wet” and then will be assigned to the High-A Visalia.
