INT Stars Edge PCL Stars 4-3 In Triple-A All-Star Game
Late rally propels International League stars to victory.
The Triple-A All Star game was played on Wednesday at Werner Park, home of the Omaha Storm, and in front of 9,023 fans.
The game took a late turn as the International League All-Stars edged the Pacific Coast League Stars 4-3, after scoring three runs in the top of the ninth to steal the victory.
In the top of the first, the International League added a run on a James Beresford (Rochester Red Wings) triple to right field and he then scored on a single off the bat of Matt Hague (Buffalo Bisons).
From that point on both teams were kept off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth when the Pacific Coast League tied the game at 1-1 on a solo home run from Cristhian Adames (Albuquerque Isotopes).
In the bottom of the eighth, PCL took a 3-1 lead on a two run home run off tee bat of Peter O’Brien (Reno Aces) scoring Jason Pridie (Nashville Sounds) who opened up the inning with a single.
With PCL looking to close out the game, Jon Edwards (Round Rock Express) came in relief and quickly walked the first batter, Jason Martinson (Syracuse Chiefs) to start the inning. The next batter Jackie Bradley Jr. (Pawtucket Red Sox) was hit by and pitch moving Martinson to second base and in scoring position. Then Alen Hanson (Indianapolis Indians) hit a single to right field to load the bases. After striking out the next batter, Edwards gave up a two run tying single to Kyle Roller (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders).
A pitching change brought in Louis Coleman (Omaha Storm Chasers), but he quickly gave away the lead on a single from Tyler Henson (Lehigh Valley IronPigs) to score Hanson and put the International Stars up 4-3. Coleman was able to get out of the inning without any more runs scoring, but the damage was done.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Pacific League All-Stars pledged one last attempt at a come back after walks from Adam Duvall (Sacramento River Cats) and Travis Taijeron (Las Vegas 51’s), but Pridie struck out to end the game.
