Jose Berrios Two-Hit Performance Downs Barons

Lookouts Extend First Place Lead

The top prospect filled Chattanooga Lookouts shutout the Birmingham Barons 3-0 on Wednesday night.  The Minnesota Twins #4 prospect Jose Berrios threw a complete game two-hit shutout picking up his fourth win of the season and his third in the last four starts.  The Lookouts extended their lead in the Southern League’s North Division by two and a half games over the Tennessee Smokies.

To say that Berrios had a dominating outing would be an understatement.  He allowed just the two hits and did walk two, but only one of the four that reached base made it to second.  On top of all that, including double plays and good defense, Berrios struck out eight.  He has pitched at least six innings during his last four starts including eight his last time out and of course nine on Wednesday.

As far as the Lookouts offense, well they had their way with Barons starter Myles Jaye in the second inning, but that was it.  The Lookouts scored all three of their runs in the inning and then were silenced the rest of the way.  The good thing for them though was that Berrios was in total control.

Chicago White Sox #2 prospect Tim Anderson struck out three times on Wednesday in his 0-for-4 night.  Courtney Hawkins, #9 prospect, had a difficult time as well striking out twice in his 0-for-4 night as well.

Both teams are in action again on Thursday in game number three of the four-game series.  Greg Peavey (2-1, 8.89) is scheduled to pitch against Frankie Montas (0-0, 3.00) at Regions Field
