Justin Upton becomes the latest free agent to make a deal.
Reports from various sources say that the 28 year old outfielder signed a six year deal worth $132.75 million with the Detroit Tigers on Monday evening.
Upton has stellar outfield skills and hit .251 with the San Diego Padres last season along with 26 homers and 81 RBIs. Upton’s offensive skills have not lagged through his journey with several teams in his young career, hitting at least seventeen homers in every season since 2009.
With the addition of Upton, the Detroit Tigers have now created a lineup that is definitely competitive with the remaining of the American League Central, joining Miguel Cabrera, J. D. Martinez and Victor Martinez as well as the young power hitter James McCann, just to name a few.
Upton was drafted in the 2005 MLB Draft, with the first overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks. In January 2013 Upton was traded to the Atlanta Braves where he spent two seasons before being traded to the San Diego Padres after the 2014 season.
