Gallo broke out in 2014 while splitting his season between High-A and Double-A. In 126 games the Las Vegas native hit a massive 42 home runs with 19 doubles, a .271 batting average and a .394 OBP. He did, however, strike out 179 times in that same span.
There’s no questioning the former first round pick’s massive 80 grade power. He’s made massive strides with his hitting approach over the past year, which has allowed the power to show up in games. However there’s so much swing and miss in his game that it bears watching as he moves up. His defense at third is questionable. He’s slow footed and his 6’5 frame doesn’t help. He has a plus arm for the position should he stick.
Outlook: For Gallo’s power to play at the highest level he’s going to have to learn to make more contact. If he can continue to make adjustments, he could be a middle of the order beast who contends for the home run title yearly.
Risk: High. Was exposed a bit at AA, hitting just .232 there. Needs hit tool to improve to carry his power.
ETA: 2016
