Legends On Deck’s Top 25 Prospects: No.’s 19-14

17. Jorge Soler, RF

Team: Cubs

Age: 22

Height: 6’4

Weight: 215

Bats/Throws: Right/Right

Soler performed like a man amongst boys in the minors in 2014, hitting .340 with a .432 OBP in 62 games across three leagues, most coming at Double-A and Triple-A. He also launched 15 homers and hit 23 doubles in his time in the minors, earning him a call up to the bigs. In 89 at-bats with the Cubs he hit .292 with five home runs and eight doubles.

The Cuban native, who signed a 9-year, $30MM deal with the Cubs in 2012, has immense raw power and enough hitting prowess to top 3o longballs annually. He has plus-plus bat speed and a solid approach, using both to take pitches from any part of the zone and spray them to all parts of the field. Defensively he profiles as a prototypical right fielder, with a plus arm and athleticism to cover ground.

Outlook: Soler is a potential middle of the order monster, with big time power and solid hitting ability.

Risk: Low. His the ability and has shown it at the highest level. Needs to prove that health concerns are thing of the past.

ETA: 2015
