MLB Draft 1st Round Picks: Orioles Select A Catcher With #1 Overall Pick

The most anticipated day for young baseball athletes looking for an opportunity to play pro ball is upon us as Monday started the MLB Amateur Draft.
With the first pick to start the draft, the Baltimore Orioles pick catcher Adley Rutschman out of Oregon State.
Rutschman played three years at Oregon State, being selected in his Junior year to go pro.
Last season was his breakout year as he hit .408, with 102 hits in 250 at bats, 22 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 83 RBIs. Then this past spring his stroke translated to more power as he slugged 17 home runs in 182 at bats, while batting .418 and a .764 slugging percentage.
As for the rest of the draft, 10 pitchers were taken, followed closely by nine shortstops out of 32 first round picks.
