MiLB.com
This weeks Florida State League Player of the Week was a real tough one to pick as a number of ball players were having an outstanding week dating 4/13-18 to 4/19/18.
We have chosen 3B Mitch Nay of the Daytona Tortugas slightly over OF Jesus Sanchez of the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Nay’s four home runs and 12 RBIs for the week was the difference maker for beating out Sanchez for this weeks honors.
Nay was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona.
For the next four seasons from 2013 to 2017, the Arizona native played in the Blue Jays system, going as high Class-A Advanced with Dunedin and combined for his career, he accumulated 364 hits, 73 doubles, 10 triples, 24 home runs, 184 RBIs, and 114 walks through 373 games.
In December 2017, the Reds released Nay and he was picked up by the Reds and this season is playing with the High A ball club, the Daytona Tortugas.
Through 13 games, Nay is batting .340, with eight runs, four doubles, 4 home runs, and 16 RBIs, while also hitting safely in 10 of the 13 games.
For the past week, Nay batted .400 (10 for 25), with four runs, four home runs and 12 RBIs. From April 13-14, Nay homered three times, homering twice on the latter date. He also hit safely in five of the six games played, amassing two hits in each game.
Congratulations to Mitch Nay for being named LOD’s Florida State League Player of the Week spanning 4/13 to 4/19.
