Over the past week, Los Angeles Dodgers starting right handed pitcher, Walker Buehler, has been the best in the majors and his team is benefiting from his dominance.
The Dodgers are 45-21, and 11 games ahead of the second place Colorado Rockies (33-31) and on the season Buehler is 7-1 with a 3.35 ERA, but over his last 7 games, he is 4-1, with a 2.15 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 46 innings.
Over first two starts in June, Buehler has shown signs of being a dominate starter and it started with his best performance of the season on June 3rd, an eight inning pitching gem where he allowed just one run on two hits, no walks and 11 strikeouts (a season high), in the Dodgers 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In that game, Buehler retired the first 14 batters faced before giving up a two-out home run off the bat of D-Backs Christian Walker. Then he went back to work, retiring the next eight batters before giving up a two-out single in the eighth inning. Buehler regained his composure to strikeout the next batter on his 102 pitch to end his night.
On June 9th, the Dodgers 1st round draft pick in 2015, took the mound against the San Francisco Giants and in a follow-up to his dominate performance the previous start, Buehler tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.
In a pitchers duel with Giants Madison Bumgarner, the Dodgers right hander, walked away with a 1-0 victory improving his record to 7-1, while Bumgarner dropped to 3-6.
In his second straight victory, Buehler was not as dominate as his previous start, but he did work in and out of trouble with runners on base to keep his team in the lead, while handing over the game to the bullpen, who then retired 6 of 7 batters to end the game and keep the Dodgers rolling in the NL West.
Congrats to Walker Buehler for being named LOD’s top pitcher for the Week of June 3 to June 9th.
