Mark Vientos is Quietly Showing His Worth To The Mets

Mark Vientos has had to prove himself over and over again and heading into the month of May, had not been given a true opportunity to seize the moment

Well that all changed after he was recalled to the Mets on May 15th and quickly made his presence known.

In his first MLB at bat since an April 29th game, Vientos hit a line drive double to left field scoring Francisco Lindor, to put the Mets up 1-0 on the Philadelphia Phillies. In his final at bat of the game, he lined a single to left and then scored on a Jeff McNeil double, pulling the Mets within 10-4, but it was not enough team offense, and the Phillies pulled out the win.

After two straight games of not recording a hit, Vientos came through again with an RBI single, putting the Mets up 2-0 early in the game on May 18th. In his very next at bat, he doubled to left field, but the Mets could not drive him in, and he ended the game 2 or 4.

The previous breakout game led to another 2 for 4 night, just three days later in Cleveland, which he also recorded his second home run of 2024. Two more games and two more hits, including his third homer, and two in three days.

Looking at his month of May, which he ended with a 3 for 5 night on Friday, Vientos has hit safely in 8 of 12 games he played in and batted .310 in the process. No one else on the roster batted higher than .266 for the month.

Vientos has been a great minor league hitter during his career, but up until last month, that has not happened on the big league level.

But with a team looking for a spark to save a season on a downward spiral, Vientos is quietly proving to the fan base and the Mets leadership that he can be that spark. Now is the time to finally let him play and watch him shine.
