Marlins #28 Prospect Ian Lewis is a kid I saw growing up in the game. I can still see this tiny kid heading to the field as most of us were leaving; that kid was Ian Lewis, and his younger brother followed him. Thus, he would use his brother to hit the ground balls and pitch to him in the batting cage.
The Growth and Strength of Ian:
Besides not seeing Ian in almost two years, I smile when I read his profile that he is 5’10” 177lbs; the look on my face was what? 177 lbs. I can’t wait to see that for myself. Ian had the talent to play the game; after all, he worked hard at his game. Besides his early start at Freedom Farm, then later training with MaxD and IElite Baseball Academies, Ian’s game began to stand out as he rose to a top international baseball prospect.
Baseball at the Farm:
Baseball at Freedom Farm was good for Ian and all of our top prospects. Together with their weekday workouts, the weekend game was highly competitive, and even Jazz got in a few games.
Moreover, it was a pleasure watching Ian grew into the player he has become and his ability to hit from both sides of the plate. Besides, we knew he would play at the next level very soon.
Miami Marlins signed free agent SS Ian Lewis to a minor league contract:

Subsequently to the start of the 2020 minor league season, everything came to a halt. While at spring training in Florida, every baseball player was sent home because of the Coronavirus. Hence, this deadly Covid-19 virus was spreading over the world.
As a result, most of our players had to head back home to the Bahamas to wait for further instructions. It was now a wait-and-see to the start of Ian’s minor league career. However, I wrote a three-part series on our minor league players on lockdown at home in the Bahamas. As a result, of uncertainty, the 2020 minor league baseball season was canceled, delaying Ian Lewis’s career.
2021 Season:
Finally, along with teams and leagues realignment, Ian was assigned to the FCL Marlins Rookie team, then later added to the Marlins top 30 prospects list at #28. By the way, his steady start to the season is going well, at a .281 hitting clip. In Summery, a solid start to the 2021 season and his career.
Finally, I can’t wait to watch him play live. Good luck and God Bless you, Ian Lewis, from the Farm to the Marlins farm system.
Jeffrey was born on April 29th, 1961, in Nassau, Bahamas to Rejoiner Ann Rolle and Jerome James Francis Etienne.
Married to Andrea G. Rolle-Francis, they have two daughters; Janae Latoya Francis, a graduate of Allegany College of Maryland, and Jessica Lee Francis a graduate Potomac State College West Virginia University in Kyser West Virginia.
Jeffrey was coaching the sport of baseball from 1980 at the age of 18 years old because he loved the sport as a kid. He started listening to the game over the radio out of Miami Florida in the late 60s and in the early 70s started playing the game locally in various local leagues right up to the premier senior league; a league where all of the current Bahamian minor leaguers played.
In 1982, Jeffrey had an invite to a three day tryout with the New York Yankees in Hollywood Florida, which was an awesome experience that is lasting a life time memory for him.
Jeffrey has been following the Bahamian baseball players in the minor leagues since 1999 with Angelo Burrows, but found greater interest with the signing of Antoan Richardson in 2005. He also writes a year end review on their play on his Facebook page, Baseball Bahamas, and he has a website with the same name. He has a great following and would love to expose the baseball players to a bigger worldwide audience.
He has a good relationship with all the players because he personally coached most of them.
His favorite MLB Team is the Detroit Tigers from 1969.
