MLB.com reported on Thursday, that the Miami Marlins reached an agreement with left fielder Christian Yelich on a 7-year, $49.570 million dollar contract extension.
The 23-year-old outfielder was drafted by the Marlins in the 1st round (23rd overall) of the 2010 amateur draft. He made his major league debut in 2013 and in 62 games he batted .288, with four home runs and 16 RBI’s.
In 2014, Yelich won the National League Gold Glove award and in 144 games and batted .284, with nine home runs, 54 RBI’s, 21 stolen bases and 7o walks. So far in 10 Spring Training games, he is batting .364, (8 for 22).
MLB.com also reported that Yelich would have been arbitration-eligible after the 2016 season, and if left unsigned he could’ve been free-agent eligible after the 2019 season.
