The San Diego Padres selected Xavier Edwards  in the 2018 CB-A draft (38th overall pick).  He played in the Padres minor league system until he was involved in a trade on December 6, 2019 that sent Tommy Pham and Jake Cronenworth from the Tampa Bay Rays to teh Padres in exchange for Hunter Renfroe and Edwards.

On November 15, 2022, the Rays traded Edwards and JT Chargois to the Miami Marlins for Marcus Johnson and Santiago Suarez.

Edwards made his MLB debut on May 2, 2023 with the Marlins and in the 21 games with the fish, he batted .381 (8 for 21).

In 2023 with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Marlins #10 Prospect is batting .373 (114 for 306), with six home runs and 41 RBIs through 76 games.

In the month of August, spanning six games, the Mineola, NY native is batting .692 (18 for 26), with seven runs, a double, two home runs, nine RBIs and five walks.

On August 1st and 2nd, he recorded back to back, three hit games, then after recording a 1 for 2 night on August 3rd, he blew up with a 3 for 4 game on August 4th.

But August 5th, was the game of the year for Edwards, as he recorded the first 6-hit game of his career, finishing 6 for 6, with four runs scored, a home run, and two RBIs.

He then topped the week off, with another home run in back-to-back games, while adding to his hits column for the week. Edwards is currently on a six game hitting streak.

Amongst the International League individual leaders, Edwards is tops in batting average (.373), top eight in runs scored (69), top five in hits (114), and top seven in stolen bases (29), top four in OBP (.441),

and top 13 in OPS (.925). Look for Edwards to make another appearance with the big club very soon as he is proving to be too good to keep down.
