Mets Look Poised For A Summer Of Fun

The 2015 season looks to be a good one in Queens this summer.

018-1

I ventured over to the New York Mets Spring Training home in Port St. Lucie on Sunday to get a glimpse of the buzz surrounding the club. There was a sense among the ball players of confidence and enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

The players seemed to be loose and having fun while doing their jobs. The smiles around camp were contagious, as it carried over to the fans. Could it be that Matt Harvey was back?, or could it just be that this group truly believes the 2015 season will be the one that gets them closer or right at the door of the post-season.

Now I understand that it is very early in the spring, but looking at it from a different perspective, I see a team that knows what they are capable of doing. They have the right mix of veterans like David WrightCurtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon sprinkled in with some seasoned younger ball players like Wilmer Flores, Travis d’Arnaud and Eric Campbell.  The pitching staff can be the best in baseball, especially if Matt Harvey returns as Matt Harvey or even better, Jacob deGrom has another outstanding season, Noah Syndergaard makes a splash this summer, and the bullpen, which looks strong on paper, pitches as advertised.

There are questions that won’t be answered until the season starts, but the buzz around the Mets has to also be that their farm system is one of the best in baseball, especially when you have pitchers like Steven Matz, Rafael Montero, Akeel Morris, Syndergaard and even a reliever like Chasen Bradford who flies under the radar, but gets the job done when called upon. And that is only a few of the arms as there are still the some future offensive stars like Brandon Nimmo, Matt Reynolds, Kevin Plawecki and even Dilson Herrera, who got a taste of playing in the majors with the Mets last summer.

So if all goes as planned, the Mets faithful should be joining in on the fun this summer at Citi Field, as they watch their team not only look to be contenders in their division, but have fun doing so.
