Mets v Nationals: Umps Allow Triple Play That Was Not
The New York Mets and Washington Nationals battled in their Friday night game, with the Nats walking off the Mets in the bottom of the ninth. But there was one play that possibly could have gone the Mets way, which the umpires saw what everyone else did not see, a catch off a line drive.
The main issue with the play was the ball bounced before the fielder could catch the ball, but the ump said it was a catch and the Nats were able to turn a triple play out of it. See for yourself if it was a catch!

The other issue with this play is that it was not a reviewable play and even though Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza asked the umps to get together and see who saw what happened, they didn’t. It would have been nice for the Mets to protest the game at that point, but that is not an option any longer.
Here are a few fan reactions to MLB posting on X that it was a Triple Play:

No, they did not, umps clearly got that completely wrong! So dumb that it can’t be reviewed.

Marquez had an obstructed view of the play. No way he could tell it was caught or short hopped. He should have asked for help.
