Mets promising right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler has been diagnosed with a torn UCL, and seems destined for Tommy John surgery to correct the issue.

The 24-year old Wheeler was expected to be a big part of the Mets rotation this season, and there were even talks that we would start Opening Day after going 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 2014.

As what appears to be a formality, Wheeler will head to New York for a second opinion on his elbow.
