MLB Offensive Spring Training Standouts Through March 5th
Spring Training games started on February 22, and this is the time when players showcase their skills and maybe earn a spot on a roster or show the fans what the season could look like. With just 12 games into the spring season, these are the offensive leaders.
HITS
Eloy Jimenez – The Chicago White Sox DH has been with the organization since the making his MLB debut in 2019. That season he put up big numbers in 122 games, as he hit 18 doubles, two triples, 31 home runs and drove in 79 runs, while finishing fourth for the AL Rookie of the Year award. This spring he is batting .500 (10 for 20) and currently has hit safely in six of the seven games he has appeared in.
Ketel Marte – The long time Arizona Diamondback second baseman is having one his better spring training starts of his career, as he is tied with Jimenez with 10 hits (10 for 18, .556 BA). He has also hit safely in all seven of his games.
Owen Caissie – The Chicago Cubs Non-Roster Invite and organizations #4 Top Prospect and MLB’s #47, hit 22 home runs Double A in 2023, and now has been turning heads this spring with a .556 batting average (10 for 17) and shared the lead with 10 hits.
DOUBLES
Nicky Lopez – Made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Kansas City Royals and spent nearly five seasons with the organization before being traded to the Atlanta Braves on July 30, 2023. In November he was traded to the White Sox in a five player swap for Chicago’s LHP Aaron Bummer. This spring he leads the MLB with five doubles through seven games.
TRIPLES
Jackson Holliday – There are five ball players that have two Triples this spring, but the standout is the Baltimore Orioles soon to be rookie sensation. The 2022 #1 overall pick in the MLB draft, is showing why he is the top prospect with his knack to put the ball in play and make things happen. His second spring triple came on March 5th, after a 3 for 4 day against the Philadelphia Phillies.
HOME RUNS
Juan Soto – There are 11 players tied with three home runs so far this spring, but out of that group, Soto is the hottest as he is a scolding 6 for 9 out the box in four games, batting .667 for the Yankees. So out of the six hits thus far, two have been doubles to go along with the three home runs.
RBI
Forrest Wall – The Atlanta Braves left fielder made his MLB debut on July 22, 2023 and in 15 games he batted .462 (6 for 13). Now through eight spring training games, he leads the MLB with nine RBIs, while also batting .467 (7 for 15), with three home runs.
BATTING AVERAGE
Ismael Munguia – The Giants Non-Roster Invite has been with the organization since he signed as an International Free Agent in 2016.
