MLB Phenoms Honored at Home Town High School

Last summer, I wrote the article Greene, Grissom and the Hagerty Way, highlighting the success of the Hagerty High School (Oviedo, FL) baseball program.  In recent years, Hagerty has produced a number of players who’ve achieved considerable success at the MLB level.  Pitcher Zach Eflin (Rays) and outfielder Ryan Mountcastle (Orioles) were in attendance on Tuesday night to welcome Riley Greene (Tigers) and Vaughn Grissom (Braves) into their elite circle, prior to the team’s pre-season game.  The school honored both young men by retiring Greene’s #21 and Grissom’s #15.

A very sizable and gleeful crowd of locals gathered for the celebration.  Both Greene and Grissom were selected in the 2019 MLB Drafted and moved quickly through their respective farm systems.  Tigers fans are hoping Riley Greene can be the future offensive star they’ve been waiting for through the rebuilding process.  And all signs point to the Braves looking at Grissom to take on their critical vacancy at shortstop.  It could be a landmark year for both Hagerty alumni.

In addition to the article, we also did a great podcast with Head Coach Mike Sindone.  He comes from a line of coaches that have helped build Hagerty into what it is today.  As they open their 2023 season, Hagerty Huskies baseball is ranked #4 overall in the state of Florida, according to Prep Baseball Report.  Their current roster is full of talented ballplayers, many of whom already have major college commitments.  The winning tradition looks to continue at Hagerty High School as the 2023 baseball season approaches.
