MLB Player of the Week: INF T.J. Rivera – Mets
Rivera batted .381 from May 1st – 7th.
As we have stated in the past, here at Legends on Deck, we don’t always follow the status quo. But that is what makes it fun is that we get to highlight the ball players that may be overlooked for the great job they are doing.
The past week in the Major Leagues, one player stood out to me as to whom should be named our MLB Player of the Week, and that is New York Mets infielder T.J. Rivera.
Rivera didn’t have that monster week where he launched home runs all over the park, but he had timely hits that helped the Mets win two out of three from both the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins, finishing the week 4-2, and propelling them into second place. As of Tuesday, they are now 15-16, and 5.5 games behind the division leading Washington Nationals.
From May 1st – 7th, Rivera batted .381 (8 for 21), with five runs scored, three doubles, a home run and four RBIs. During the week, Rivera also had a five game hitting streak and recorded a three-hit game on May 3rd.
In his last 10 games, the Bronx, NY native is batting .342 (13 for 38), with eight runs scored, six doubles, a home run, six RBIs and three walks.
With the Mets struggling to keep healthy bodies on the field, Rivera has stepped up his game and has become a major reason why they are still in the hunt for first place.
Congratulations to T.J. Rivera for being named Legends on Deck’s MLB Player of the Week winner for May 1st – May 7th.
