MLB Weekend in Review – April 14-16

The Major League season is entering it’s third full week and so far it has been nothing but exciting baseball games. If the season ended today, all the 2017 predictions would be wrong, as there are some surprising teams playing winning baseball early on.

The Win Streak

The New York Yankees entered the weekend at 5-4, and on a four game winning streak. The Broonx Bombers were 1-4 after the first week of the season, having lost two of three to the Tampa Rays and the first two of their three game series against the Baltimore Orioles. But on Sunday April 9th, a 7-3 victory over the Orioles started their streak.

The ironic part of the current streak is that catcher Gary Sanchez has not been a part of it, as he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of a muscle behind his right biceps and is expected to be out 4 weeks.

The rebounded from their forgetable week one performance and swept the three-game series against the Rays at Yankee Stadium and over the past weekend, swept the St. Louis Cardinals. Now sitting on a seven game winning streak, the Yankees are taking aim at the AL east Division Lead as they sit just .5 game behind the first place Baltimore Orioles.

Division Leaders

As of Monday, the Division leaders:

AL East – Baltimore Orioles

AL Central – Detroit Tigers

AL West – Houston Astros

NL East – Miami Marlins, Washington Nationals

NL Central – Cincinnati Reds

NL West – Colorado Rockies
