Montgomery Biscuits Trounce Mobile BayBears, 16-1
Tampa Bay Rays Double-A Affiliate wins fourth straight game.
The Montgomery Biscuits, Tampa Bay Rays Double-A affiliate and the Mobile BayBears, Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, played the first game of their five game series on Monday, with the Biscuits trouncing the BayBears 16-1 at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium. The win was the Biscuits fourth in a row and pulled them within a game and a half of first place in the Southern League North division.
The Biscuits started their scoring barrage by putting up a five spot in the bottom of the first inning. The inning started off with center fielder Boog Powell getting hit by a pitch. Then a single and a walk loaded the bases. After a strike out to first baseman Cameron Seitzer, catcher Justin O’Connor hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Powell with the games first run. Next battter left fielder Tyler Goeddel hit a line drive triple to right field scoring two. With one out, right fielder Kes Carter singled to drive in two more runs to make the score 5-0.
Montgomery would add a run to their lead in the bottom of the third when Goeddel hit his second line drive triple of the game and then scored on a wild pitch by BayBears pitcher Seth Simmons.
In the bottom of the 6th, Biscuits Johnny Field hit a lead-off double to right field, then after two walks to load the bases, shortstop Daniel Robertson walks and drives in Field to extend the lead to 7-0. The next batter third baseman Richie Shaffer grounded into a force out scoring second baseman Leonardo Reginatto, who walked earlier in the inning.
The BayBears managed to get on the board in the top of the eighth when left fielder Tom Belza, who singled to lead off the inning, scored on a fielding error by Robertson.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Biscuits went on a tear with seven straight singles which scored four runs, then the big blow of the innings, a grand slam by Field to left center field, made the score 16-1.
