Nationals Sign Casey Janssen

One-Year With A Mutual Option

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Washington Nationals have signed free agent relief pitcher Casey Janssen.  The deal is being reported as a one-year deal with an option, and $5 million guaranteed.  The move bolsters the Nationals bullpen and really puts them in position to make a run in 2015.

Janssen, 33, has played in eight season in the major leagues all with the Toronto Blue Jays.  He has closer experience recording 81 over the last three seasons.  Washington already has a closer in Drew Storen, but the signing deepens their bullpen and adds more veteran experience.  Janssen was one of the better remaining options on the free agent market for relief pitchers.

Washington who has one of the best rotations in baseball gets more help at the back end with this signing and for $5 million could be looked at as a bargain depending on how the season plays out.
