Opening Day Game of The Week Recap: Orioles Open Season With Decisive 11-3 Win Over Angels
The 2024 season started with a decisive victory for the Baltimore Orioles as they showed off their explosive offense and strong starting pitching, leading them to an 11-3 drubbing of the LA Angels.
The game started with a bang in the first as Angels Mike Trout hit a solo two out home run to put L.A up 1-0.
In the bottom of the frame, Baltimore answered right back with two runs after Anthony Santander hits a bases loaded force out to second, tying the game at 1-1. After Austin Hayes strikes out, Jordan Westburg hits a line drive single to center scoring Adly Rutschman to put the Oriole sin the lead at 2-1 and they never looked back.
After gibing up a first inning run, starter and newcomer Corbin Burnes settled into the game and retires the next 15 guys to face him, while striking out 11 batters.
The offense kept going with three runs in the second, led by a one out two run single off the bat of Rutschman, and sac fly from Santander to push the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Santander launched a two run home run, scoring Rustchman, and increasing the lead to 7-3.

Ryan Mountcastle, who drove in 68 runs in 2023, added to his career total after a sac fly scored Jorge Mateo with the Orioles eighth run of the game. The runs kept coming, and in the bottom of the seventh, Cedric Mullins joined the party with a three run home run over the center field fence to give the Orioles a demanding 11-1 lead.
The Angels cut into the lead in the top of the eighth with two runs on a bases loaded force out, but it wasn’t enough as the Orioles Keegan Akin shut the door in the ninth, striking out Taylor Ward to end the game and secure Baltimore’s first victory in 2024. Just 100 more to tie last seasons win total.
